Reports of meetings of branches are requested but they should be furnished promptly, for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week Jrom the date of the meeting cannot be promised The Tawanui Women’s Institute met on Tuesday last, when Mrs Fraser presided. The roll call was “A riddle.” The motto was “ Happy is she whose good intentions have borne fruit.” In the competition, “An article made from a flour bag,” Mrs Fraser was first and Mrs Dryden second. The hostesses were Mesdames Matheson and Miller. * * ♦ Miss Ross (president) gave a welcome to members and friends at the Totara Hall on the occasion of the sixth birthday of the Awamoa-Alma Institute. All present joined in community singing, with Mrs Cowan at the piano. This was followed by competitions, “ The pantry guessing ” being won by Mrs Barr, with Miss Mills second; “ Knitting with matches,” Miss ' Kelcher 1, Mrs Cooper 2; “Lighted candle race,” Mrs Mcßeath I, Mrs McGimpsey 2; “Mystery parcel, Mrs McGimpsey; “Lucky cup,” Mrs Morris; “ Lucky plate,” Miss B. Miller. Miss V. Martin gave a recitation and Miss Parker a pianoforte solo. At afternoon tea Miss Ross cut the cake made by Mrs Perry and iced by Mrs Barr. Greetings were received from the Eveline, Waianakarua, and Waiareka Women’s Institutes, and also from the Kia Ora and Maheno Women’s Divisions.

The Awamoa-Alma Institute met in the Totara Hall, Miss Ross presiding.' The motto was “Never say ‘I can’t : always say ‘ I will try.’ ” and the roll call was “ Hints for washing day.” The hostesses were Misses Martin and Ross. Competitions resulted as follows: “Shortbread”—Miss Clark 1, Miss V. Martin 2, Miss Keating 3; “Preserved cherry plums,” Mrs Perry 1, Mrs Hall 2; “Preserved apricots and peaches,” Mrs Hall 1; “Guessing the parts of the body competition.” Miss M. Foulton.
