The prohibition is unexpected, since it was only a few months ago that it was announced that the old aristocratic and upper-class practice of having recourse to the sword for the settlement of affairs of honour was to be incorporated into the National Socialist State, which had suppressed the Student Corps to which the privilege belonged. The head of the State Organisation for Students, Dr Scheel, declares that it has not yet been possible to give effect to the detailed regulations for carrying out the decree regulating duelling. It would appear from his statement that the Nazi Party has not yet made up its mind finally about the conditions under which duelling should be allowed. Until it dogs there is to be no duelling.
