PALMERSTON

Footballers’ Annual Ball On Wednesday night, by the artistic arrangement of streamers in the club s colours, illuminated greenery, and decorated balloons, the interior of the Coronation Hall, Palmerston, was transformed into the semblance of a carnival, and the animation lent to this display by the presence of some 160 dancing couples, who included visitors from as far away as Dunedin Oamaru and the Maniototo district created a spectacular scene. The occasion was the annual ball of the Palmerston Football Club. The guests of honour included two members of both the Otago Rugby Union and the Eastern District Sub-union —Messrs I. Grant, V. Cavanagh, C. Olsen, and George Thompson, who were accompanied by their wives, and Mr Rennick, Mrs Parkhill, and Mr A. Parkhill. During a break in the programme Mr C. Olsen, in the absence of the president of the club, Mr Alexander McGregor, presented Mr A. Parkhill with an inscribed barometer. The speaker said the gift was from the All Black’s friends in the district, who were anxious to congratulate* him on his achievement in representing New Zealand and incidentally his district on the football field. Other speakers were Messrs I. Grant, V. Cavanagh, and P. O’Reillv. Mr Olsen presented the captain of" the Palmerston juniors (Mr M. Adams) with the banner which they had won as the premier team in their competition. Music was supplied by the Savonia Band, of Dunedin, while Miss Stent played several supper extras.
