AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS C,GHT RECORDS BROKEN (Per United Press Association) ' WELLINGTON, Oct. 24. The breaking of five New Zealand and three Australian and New Zealand records made especially notable the third annual amateur championships ox the New Zealand Weight-lifting Association on Saturday night. More than 30 competitors took part in the programme, which lasted four hours. All the new records established will be officially recognised throughout the world. , , H. Clcghorn (Auckland) won the Heavy-weight Championship, in each of three lifts breaking the Australian and New Zealand record formerly established by himself. His performances were (previous records in parentheses):—Two hands military press, 2201 b (2151 b); two hands snatch, 230 b (2251 b); two hands clean jerk, 305/,lb (30331 b). , T L. Hogan (Auckland), the only New Zealander to hold official world s records at weight-lifting, won the Middle-weight Championship and also broke his own New Zealand middleweight records for two hands military press and two hands snatch with 17531 b and 190Hb respectively, A. Angrove (Napier) won the lightweight championship, taking the Anderton Challenge Shield from last year’s winner, M. Darby (Wanganui) Angrove also broke the New Zealand light-weight record for the two hands clean jerk with 226i1b, his previous record being 2231 b. A. Dick (Wellington) won the Feather-weight Championship with 1431 b, defeating E. Askew (Auckland), who recently won the Australasian junior feather-weight title. Askew broke the feather-weight record for two hands snatch with 150 Rb. L. Harris (Napier), holder of seyeral New Zealand records, took the light-heavy-weight title, defeating H. K. Young (Auckland), junior provincial champion.
