Cricket Balclutha A Grade team went to Milton on Saturday to play Milton A. Balclutha batted lirst and compiled 165 runs, Flew topping the score with 64. A. Stewart 21, P. McGregor 20. L, Guest 15,1. Stewart 14, Frengley 11. Bowling: Bowie six wickets for 40 runs, Kane one for 19, Ottrey one for 23. Gibson one for 26. Milton made 173 for four wickets (Collins 58, Wisely 46, Herbert 27). Bowling: Milne three for 46, I. Stewart one for 11. Milton thus won by eight runs and six wickets. On the High School ground, the B Grade match Benhar v. High School was played. Benhar batted first for 131 (Reid 52, Barnett 22). Bowling: Hughes two for one wicket, G. Guest two for 11, Hay three for 23, Donaldson one for nine, Findlay one for 19, Whitson one for 19. School made 113 (G. Guest 33, Dreaver 17, Findlay 11, Donaldson 10). Bowling: Barnett two for 10, Simpson one for eight, G. Barron four for 33, H. Barron one for 21, W. Barron one for 35, Balclutha B played Owaka B on the latter’s ground. The visitors won by 183 to 150. For Owaka. ChapmanCohen made 45, J. M'Anch 20. G. Rae 24, A. Brownlie 16, Finlayson 13. Tabor 10. Geddis topped the Balclutha score with 71, P. Guest 37 (retired). Edwards 21, Good 31 (not out). Hansen 12. Majority for CTutha, 33 runs. Low River The Molyneux River is so low at present that the steamer Clutha is detained at Clydevale, unable to return to Balclutha owing to the lack of a navigable channel. Bowling Kaitangata bowlers opened the season on Saturday with a friendly match. Visitors were present from Balclutha, Milton, Benhar, Stirling, and St, Clair Clubs. Mr J. Hay, president, declared the green open. The ladies dispensed afternoon tea, and congratulatory speeches were made by the visiting representatives.
