OFFICIAL FORECAST CLOUDY AND UNSETTLED The following is the official weather Though an anti-cyclone of slight intensity crossed the South Island on Saturday, pressure is still low to the north, and a fresh series of depressions is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Indications are for; — . Winds—Rather variable and in many places strong, with south-east to northeast predominating at first, and later northerlies becoming more general. Seas—New Zealand waters: Slight to moderate north of East Cape and on the east coast of the South Island, but elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds predominating, with rather rough seas. Weather— Mainly cloudy to overcast and unsettled, with rain at times in most districts, some heavy falls being probable in central provinces; temperatures moderate. Generally unpleasant conditions were experienced at the week-end. Light rain with occasional heavy showers fell on both days. The wind was fresh from the north-east. The barometer fell continuously, dropping steadily after mid-day to-day to 29.75 in at 5 p.m. The maximum temperature for the week-end was 69 degrees and the minimum 58 degrees. WELLINGTON, Oct. 24. A fresh northerly wind blew on Saturday, but the weather mainly was fine, with summer-like temperatures. A strong south-easterly wind set in in the evening and rain fell early this morning. The day remained cold and threatening. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 24. After a warm, sunny morning a cold south-westerly blew in the afternoon of Saturday and the night was also cold.
