THE ANGLICAN SYNOD AND WAR

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—lt is greatly to be regretted that at a time when the will to peace is so urgently required the only pronouncement of the Anglican Synod on the question of war was to condone rearmament and encourage military ifsjaining. There was no judgment on £jjfar as un-Christian, members of the church were not urged to work and pray for peace—nothing but. a bald and barren assent to the methods of war. What a pity the discussion was concluded in committee! It is inconceivable that ministers of Christ could have agreed unanimously to such a resolution. What a mercy it is that one archdeacon is reported to have sounded a strong word for peace, and goodwill! That it can ever be the mind of God, of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, to resort to killing, maiming—but it is not necessary to elaborate on the brutality of war; it is only too evident—is inconceivable. 'Surely the church has more to offer a fear-ridden world than this! Yes, it has.—l am, etc., Dunedin, October 22. Adelphos.
