CITY POLICE COURT

Monday, October 18 (Before Mr H. W Bundle, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS Edward Charles M'Laughlin, charged with drunkenness, was fined 20s, in default 24 hours’ imprisonment. DRUNK AND DISORDERLY Horace James Bachop, 21 years of age, pleaded guilty to having, while drunk, behaved in a disorderly manner in a public place.—Senior Sergeant Packer stated that at 10.10 p.m. on Saturday the defendant, who was under the influence of liquor, was causing trouble at a dance which was being held in one of the sheds on the Rattray street wharf. He was ejected several times, but he returned each time, and his conduct was very bad. —His Worship said that a man who made a nuisance of himself at a public dance deserved no consideration. In view of the accused’s youth, however, he would be convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months, conditional on hie taking out a prohibition order. INTOXICATED MOTORIST Leo Joseph Crannitch, for whom Mr E. J. Anderson appeared, pleaded guilty to being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car.— Senior Sergeant Packer explained that at 2.30 on Sunday morning the accused was seen by Traffic Inspector M’Dowell driving a car on the Main South road in a very erratic manner. He was stopped near Allanton, and as a result of the condition he was in was taken to the Central Police Station, where he was certified by Dr Harty as being under the influence of liquor and unfit to drive a car.—Mr Anderson said that before he was stopped the defendant had had a blow-out and had received a severe shock. He had partaken of some hospitality at Waihola, where he had three glasses of beer; but of its type the case did not appear to be a bad one. The defendant had been able to make a good recovery when the blow-out took place, and, when changing the wheel, had been seen by the inspector, who had not noticed anything amiss.—A fine of £ls, with solicitors fee (£1 Is), was imposed, the accused’s licence was cancelled, and he was prohibited from driving for 12 months. MAINTENANCE Walter Reginald Sanders was proceeded against by his wife, from whom he is now divorced, on a complaint for maintenance in resoect of two children.—Mr M. F. Hanan apoeared for the complainant and Mr C. J. L. White for the defendant.—After evidence had been tendered by the parties, the magistrate granted an order of 10s per week for each child, payment of half this amount to be suspended pending a further order of the court.
