BAND CONTEST
CANTERBURY PROVINCE (Per United Press Association> ASHBURTON, Oct. 18. The Canterbury provincial bands’ contest was held on Saturday. Ashburton Silver was the only entry in the B Grade. Timaru Municipal Junior won both the quickstep, with 247 \ points, and the own choice selection, with 129 points. Waimate silver, with 2371 and 119 points, was the only other competitor. There were six competitors in the pipe bands’ quickstep, which resulted: Ashburton Highland (handicap 25), 282; Timaru Highland (scr.), 276: Mackenzie Highland (31), 2641. The selection resulted: —City of Christchurch Highland (scr.) 89; Mackenzie Highland (10), 83; North Canterbury Caledonian (13), 80.
