OTAGO CHESS CLUB
ARRANGEMENTS FOR CONGRESS The committee appointed to deal with the preliminary work in connection with the annual chess congress to be held in Dunedin during the Christmas holidays met in the clubrooms on Saturday evening. Mr J. J. Marlow, the president, was in the chair, and the following were present: —Messrs W. Herbert and O. Balk, Dr E. W. Bennett, Messrs D. H. Hastings. W. Lang, J. S. M. Lawson. R. M'Dermid, Dr E N. Mevi'ington. and Mr G D, Wright. The question of a suitable hall in which the congress may be held was discussed, and a sub-committee consisting of the president, the secretary, and Mr R. M’Dermid was appointed to make inquiries and report at the next meeting. A sub-committee consisting of the president, the secretary, Dr Merrington, an Mr O. Balk was appointed to prepare a circular for distribution. The secretary was authorised to have the playing clocks put in order. A general discussion took place on finance, and a subscription list was opened by Dr Merrington, after which the meeting was adjourned till Wednesday, October 27, when the reports of the various sub-committees will be received.
