A BREACH OF TRUST

THEFTS BY COLLECTOR UNION FEES APPROPRIATED (Per United Press Association) HASTINGS, June 23. On a charge of the theft of £42 10s entrusted to him, the property of the Tomoana branch of, the Wellington Freezing Workers’ Union, Hugh Gemmel Beban, single, aged 48, appeared in the Hastings Magistrate’s Court to-day. He pleaded guilty. The magistrate (Mr J. Miller) placed him on probation for two years on condition that he took out a prohibition order and made restitution of the money appropriated. It was stated by the police that the defendant had been appointed to collect union fees which were later to be handed over to the secretary of the union. He had collected £ll2 10s but had failed to account for part of this sum.
