“ASKING FOR IT"
POLICE SERGEANT STRUCK How a man walked into a London police station, told the sergeant he “ wanted to fight a policeman ” and then punched the sergeant on the jaw, was described at Gravesend recently. Sentence of four months’ hard labour was passed on Elias Gatehouse, of Brunswick Retreat, Gravesend, who pleaded guilty to assaulting Sergeant Grimes. The sergeant declared that Gatehouse was under the influence of drink, but not drunk. Gatehouse told the Bench that he took home a man who was drunk, and the man gave him a halfbottle of whisky, which he drank. This went to his head. ,
Inspector King stated that Gatehouse was sent to prison last year for assaulting a police officer at Gravesend. When sentenced, Gatehouse remarked, “Thank you. It will be a rest.”
