THE MARCUS SHOW
NEW STANDARD IN REVUE Dunedin lias seen revues before, scores of them, but never anything so spectacular as the Marcus Show, now running at His Majesty's Theatre, and nothing so clever, so smoothly run, so satisfying to the eye as this. It is the type of entertainment that snatches even the most stoical member of the audience out of his seat and bundles him along as a furious pace on the crest of a wave of colour, fun and music. Dancing is the main component of the show. Not only are there accomplished individual dancers, but there is a ballet with the most rhythmically efficient feet that have been seen here for many years. The dancing ranges from the intricacies of flying steps, through the comic postures of the eccentric, to the sweeping languor of the waltz. All of it is marked by an incomparable precision and deftness. There are specialty acts as well, and the acrobatic balancing of the Six Tossing Bedfords and the adagio dancing of the Liske Brothers and Armida are entertainment in themselves. Then there is Fid Gordon, who does more things with a violin than one would believe to be humanly possible. The show is rich in comedy as well, and the funmakers, headed by Ben M'Atee, present their acts and patter in a polished manner which is irresistible. It is the succession of gorgeous spectacles, however, which makes the Marcus Show stand high above any other type of revue entertainment seen in New Zealand. There will be a matinee this afternoon, and the programme will be continued nightly until Saturday. "Broadway Vanities," a complete change of programme, will be presented on Monday next for three nights only.
