IRELAND
ro Tin; editor Sir,—Those correspondents who have been so ready to malign Great Britain will be interested in the following:— One ol the principal lines ol attack which the do Valera Government will have to meet at the Free Slate elections this month, according to one Dublin correspondent, is (iic persistent flight of the population from the land to tlie cities and towns and more especially to Great Britain. Added to this is the admittedly sad plight of the smaller farmers, who have no reserves and arc now faced with increased prices for all the commod ties they have to buy. while they are without cattle to sell at the higher prices which are now available The unemployment figures present another problem A few weeks ago they were In the region of 90,000. There is also the fact that young people arc leaving the country for Groat Britain at tire rate of 29,000 a year. A decreasing population is regarded as a serious matter, particularly in view of (lie fact, as disclosed in the recent census in Northern Ireland, that the population in that area is increasing. —1 am, etc., X Y Z.
