Monday, June 21 /(Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS Two first offenders for drunkenness were each fined 20s, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment. MOTORIST REMANDED A young man whose name was ordered to be suppressed in the meantime was charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a car. A remand until Friday was granted, counsel for the defendant (Mr G. T. Baylee) stating there was a complete answer to the charge. ALLEGED THEFT John Hasting Royce Hampstead, alias Tipa James, alias Tipa Huia, aged 27 years, was charged with the theft of £ 35, the property of Roland Romas.—On the application of Chief Detective Young a remand was granted until Thursday.—Mr C. J. L. White said that the accused had made a clean breast of the matter and asked for bail. —The chief detective said that only a portion of the money had been recovered. The accused was still on probation.— Hampstead was released on his own recognisance of £SO, conditional on his reporting twice daily to the police.
