CLIMBERS KILLED
OVERWHELMED BY AVALANCHE GERMAN EXPEDITION IN HIMALAYAS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SIMLA, June 20. An avalanche overwhelmed the German expedition to Nanga Parbat, killing seven climbers and nine Gurkha porters, but the leader, Herr Wein, escaped. Lieutenant Smart, of the Gurkha Rifles, at present serving as liaison officer to the Nanga Parbat expedition, also escaped. PROGRESS OF EXPEDITION ATTACK ON THE SUMMIT BERLIN, June 20. By a coincidence the Volkischer Beobachter publishes an article dated May 20 by Martin Pfeffer, a member of the expedition, announcing that the party had reached the main camp on the snowline at an altitude of 10,900 feet, and was hoping to launch an attack on the summit of the mountain within a month. „ m „ He added that Professor C. Troll, of the Berlin University, “whom science had led elsewhere,” had quitted the expedition on May 17.
