SIR OTTO NIEMEYER'S RESIGNATION
THE FINANCIAL COMMITTEE

GENEVA, June 18
Sir Otto Niemeyer has resigned from the Financial Committee of the League of Nations, of which he lias been a member since 1922, on the ground of the recent decision to appoint members for a three-year term only He declares that a committee whose members have so short and uncertain a tenure is unable to render the same effective service as in the past. Mr Strakosch has also resigned from the Financial and Raw Materials Committees, as South Africa does not desire to continue her membership of either, COMMITTEES' REPORTS CAMPAIGN AGAINST DRUG TRAFFICGENEVA, June 18. The campaign against opium and other dangerous drugs is reviewed, in the report of the Opium Advisory Committee of the League bf Nations, which considered the situation in the Far East in addition to other aspects of the traffic. The Economic Committee adopted a report to the Council containing a general discussion on international economic relations The report mentions, inter alia, the measures taken for participation in a conference on coal, and a conference on rural "life Other subjects considered were unification ' of Customs' nomenclature and a proposal to hold a meeting of experts to consider the Govern mer.t's views on a draft sanitary convention concerning international traffic in meat. The Committee for the Study of Raw Materials was divided into two sub-committees to examine existing complaints and difficulties regarding supply and regarding the demand for raw materials.
