THE SHARE MARKET DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE Bank of New Zcalands were slightly easier on the Dunedin Stock Exchange on Saturday morning, but prices for shares in the other sections maintained their steady prices of Friday. After reported business late on Friday at £2 4s, buyers of Bank of New Zealands offered £i! 3s 9d, but sellers remained firm 9d away. For the Long D issue buyers dropped 3d to £1 6s, but holders would not accept less than £1 6s 6d. The rise in buyers' quotations of 2s for Stock Exchange Proprietary shares was maintained, but no seller entered the market There was only a slight improvement registered in G. J. SOUTHLAND MARKETS (Special io Daii/s? Times) INVERCARGILL. June 19. GRAIN REPORT Oats.—'These have been offering for the last week or so in increasing quantities, and it is fairly apparent that the ouantity of oats grown and harvested has exceeded the expectations of (he general public. Many not unnaturally are in low to poor condition, but nevertheless some nice samples are being submitted, not sufficiently good, perhaps, in colour to meet the requirements of A and B grades. Owing to reports of business with Tasmania and the north, the market is somewhat easier, but millers are still operating with freedom for any heavy and reasonably sound lines. The basis of values to-day is 4s Id, f.0.b., s.i., Bluff. Under grade have been sold, depending on the quality, from 3s 3d to 3s lOd per bushel, f.0.b., s.i. SEED REPORT Between markets seeds generally are negligible. It seems apparent that the bulk of the distributors have secured sufficient for their ow.i particular trade from the carry-over from last season, and especially so in ryegrass. So little new crop is offering as hardly to warrant a report as to market value. A few deliveries have been made of ryegrass from the northern parts of Southland, prices to growers being from 3s to 3s 6d per bushel from the mill for ordinary oerennial. Brown Top.—The market is by no means as firm owing to the lack of orders from overseas, and quotations between markets are to-day Is 2d per lb for Government certified seed and Is to Is Id for uncertified seed. Chewings Fescue and Crested Dogstail.—Not much interest is being shown in either, the bulk of seed grown being now in merchants' hands, and overseas buyers are not buying by any means freely. The market consequently has, if anything, a somewhat lowering tendency. STOCK MARKET The stock market during the week has been quiet, and little business, apart from fat stock, has been transacted. Fat cattle are coming forward in fairly regular numbers, and values remain fair for all classes. Fat sheep were slightly easier for heavy wethers and ewes, but freezing weights sold at increased rates. The store _ sheep market is quiet, and values are, if anything, slightly easier, due to a great extent to the scarcity of feed. The store cattlp market is quiet, and very few lines are offering. • Fat Cattle.—Prime heavy oullocks, £ll to £l2; medium-weight bullocks, £9 to £10; light bullocks, £7 10s to £8 10s; prime heavy cows, £7 to £8; medium cows, £5 to £5 10s; lighter cows. £3 10s to £4 10s; prime heavy heifers. £7 10s to £8 10s; medium heifers. £5 10s to £6; lighter heifers. £4 to £5. Fat Sheep.—Prime heavy wethers. 36s to 38s; prime medium wethers, 30s to 325; lighter wethers, 26s to 28s; prime heavy ewes, 24s to 25s 6d; medium ewes. 21s to 225; lighter ewes, 17s to 18s; prime heavy lambs. 30s to 325: medium lambs, 26s to 28s; lighter lambs, 22s to 23s 6d. Store Sheep.—Romney ewe hoggets, 28s to 30s; medium Romney ewe hoggets, 24s 6d to 26s 6d; Romney wether hoggets, 16s to 18s; medium Romney wether hoggets, 12s 6d to 14s; Romney two-tooth ewes, 36s to 38s; four, six, and eight-tooth ewes, 28s to 32s 6d; failing-mouthed ewes, 22s to 22s 6d; broken-mouthed ewes, 16s to 18s; poorer sorts, 10s to 12s. MERCHANDISE MARKET The Kent, due on June 28 from London, is carrying a full consignment of British merchandise. Merchants state that in practically every instance these goods show an advance on recent prices. The Kauri, from Adelaide via Auckland, brought a large shipment of evaporated apricots, peaches, and pears. She also landed salt from South Australia and sugar from Auckland. The next sugar steamer is the Waimarino, due on June 23. The Wingatui arrived at the week-end with a cargo. Ozone oysters have been increased in price by 6d per dozen tins. A parcel of South American canary seed, transhipped at San Francisco to the Limerick, came to a bare market. The same vessel also landed a parcel of Canadian sardines, cornflour, and Kraft paper. Canned pears are being secured from Australia in fairly large quantities. Supplies of Witch iodised salt in 51b bags will be landed ex the Kent. Canadian iodised salt was on board the Limerick. Ceremilk calf meal and Chuck-Chuck chicken food have been increased in price. . ,ft . „ A parcel of Norwegian sardines, just arrived, shows an increase of 2s 9d per case. Morton's olive oil, ex the Kent, shows a remarkable advance on the quotation ruling a year ago. A report from Singapore on the pineapple market under date May 19 reads as .follows:—" Fruit supplies are now at the peak, and packing will continue at full pressure until towards the end of the month, when supplies are expected to tail off gradually. The United Kingdom market remains exceptionally quiet, but it is not unlikely that buying on a large scale will be resumed shortly, particularly if weather conditions are favourable. Packers are now coming to the end of their cheap tinplate purchases, and when they have to buy further supplies their packing costs will be increased considerably, and we look for a substantial advance in prices during June or July."
