OTAGO HUNT CLUB

MEET AT PINE HILL The weekly run of the Otago Hunt Club was held on Saturday at Pine Hill over the properties of Messrs W. Hastie and J. L. Ford. Members met at the Town Hall and proceeded to Mr Hastie's property, where the throw-off took place. The hounds were soon on the trail and worked well throughout. .

The first obstacle, a wire jump on an up-grade, proved tricky, and held up several of the riders. This was followed by a hencoop and two more wire fences before the trail led up the road to Mr Ford's property, where there were several good post and rails, which provided excellent jumping. Followers then proceeded up the road for about a mile, where stone walls, post and rails, and wire fences made it interesting going. The trail led through creeks and bush, and was a good test for riders and horses. The going was particularly heavy throughout the run. and this no doubt affected the jumping, which was not as good as usual. The best performances were registered by Biackthorne. ridden by Mr R. James, Mr W. Muirhcad's Kim and Mr J- J- Morris's Greyhawk. Despite the adverse weather conditions there was a good attendance of members and supporters. Interested spectators included Mrs and Miss Templeman, who arc members of the Brackcnfield Hunt. In the absence of the huntsman (Mr R. Harvey), Mr J.Richards acted in that capacity, while Mr R. James fulfilled the duties of whip. Spectators were interested in an excellent performance of jumping over miniature hurdles by Master F Ford on Darkv. This young rider shows considerable promise of becoming a good horseman. After the run afternoon tea was dispensed at the residence of Mr Ford, and the master took the opportunity of thanking the property-owners and Mr and Mrs Ford for assisting with the refreshments. Mr Hastie replied on behalf of the property-owners. A jumping competition was then held over four post and rails, the judges

being Messrs N. Murdoch and W. Hastie. Mr J. R. Brown's Dandy put up an excellent performance to win this event. The result was as follows:
