WAITAKI OLD BOYS

LONDON BRANCH MEETS (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, May 26. The London branch of the Waitaki Old Boys’ Association sent a telegram of good wishes to the school a first headmaster, Mr John Harkness, when the annual dinner was held last week. The suggestion was made by Professor Victor Booth, who was in the chair, and it met with unanimous approval. Professor Booth described the school as he knew it in 1894, when there were 36 boys, and P a *d a tribute to the valuable work of the honorary secretary, Mr de Vries, in running the London branch. Mr Maurice Smith proposed the toast of “The School,” and described his recent visit. He said that he knew of no school with better equipment. He' coupled with the toast the name of Mr John Milner, son of Mr Frank Milner. Mr Milner, in an eloquent and humorous reply, described some recent experiences at the school, and announced that his father would probably be visiting England by the end of 1939. ■ . , Dr A. J. W. Rowse, who was also present, had been for 18 years engaged in Canadian journalism, while Mr G. C. Dailey was a member of the engineering staff of the 8.8. C. Mr Robert Milligan mentioned the success of Professor Booth in the musical world, and the speech of Mr John Milner, which showed that he had inherited the eloquence and humour of his father. As an old member of the Board of Governors, he felt proud that in London, the heart of the Empire, so active a branch of the Old Boys* Association existed. - Those present included Mr John Milner, Mr Robert Milligan, Captain A. B, Walton, Mr L. Ambery, Mr J. Gordon Gibbs, Dr A. Wilson, and Dr A. J. Harrop.
