THE REAL DANGER

"COMMUNISM AT THE DOOR" DICTATORSHIP OF LABOUR REPLY TO ACTING PRIME MINISTER (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, June 9. Speaking at Riverton to-night the Leader of the Opposition (Mi Adam Hamilton) said that his attention had been drawn to ? report ir> the Taranaki Herald of May 26 of i speech made by the Acting Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) on .he day before at Hawera. It was reported that Mr Fraser had said that he was not an alarmist. He hoped he was wrong, but he was afraid that il the Labour Government were defeated at the next election the people )i New Zealand would be deprived ol the opportunity of electing a government for at least 10 years He added that vested Interests would prevent Labour from occupying the Treasury benches for i long time, and also stated that democracy must be maintained. " If the Minister is correctly reported," Mr Hamilton said, " it is to be regretted that one holding his political rank should utter such nonsense. He knows that the suggestion is absolutely false. The statement is very interesting coming from the same Minister who quite recently whistled to keep up his courage by stating that the rational Party' was bankrupt. - Now ne realises that there '.s a very real possibility of the Labour Party being beaten at the next election." Mr Fraser's remark, Mr Hamilton said, was made without the slightest justification and was an attempt to distract the tide of public resentment that was growing stronger every day against the dictatorial domination of his Socialistic Party Such dictation was causing wide-, spread alarm among the people of New Zealand, who loved freedom and justice to an extent not realised by the Acting Prime Minister. Democracy had never been m doubt in New Zealand until a Labour Government came into office, Mr Hamilton concluded, but Communism, with a totalitarian State, was now knocking at the door. That was New Zealand's real danger.
