CRASH OVER BANK

FATAL MOTOR ACCIDENT WOMAN KILLED AND TWO MEN INJURED (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, June 9. A Woman was killed instantaneously and two men were injured, One of ihem seriously, when, a car crashed over a bank near Cass this afternoon. Those involved in the accident were:— KILLED Mrs T. W. VOLLER, aged 68, of Worcester street, Christchurch. INJURED Thomas William Voller, aged 69, a fractured skull, a broken leg, and a fiactured forearm. William Booth Lambert, aged 44. a fractured wrist and head injuries. Lambert, the driver of the car, who is a commercial traveller, said he was on his way from Christchurch to Greymouth with Mr and Mrs Voller as passengers. In the back of the car were several sample cases and other equipment. Suddenly when rounding a bend the back wheels seemed to lock and the car swayed from side to side, becoming out of control and crashing over a bank of 15 to 20 feet with a small creek below. The luggage at the back forced the front seat on top of the occupants,'.and they were unable to move.. Lambert regained consciousness soon after the crash, but was unable to move for about an hour. Then assistance came from a passing car. The Christchurch-Otira excursion train was held up at Cass for 20 minutes while the injured men were placed on board, and at Springfield the train waited for 10 minutes while the injured were transferred to a St. John Ambulance," which.. brought them •to Christchurch.
