CHORAL SOCIETY'S CONCERT

EXCEPTIONALLY FINE PROGRAMME In addition to the brilliantly contrasted Russian numbers on the programme for next Monday's concert, the Choral Society will render Hoist's " King Estmere" as an example of English music. The completely reorganised choir, which will be conducted by Mr Alfred Walmsley, has been enthusiastically preparing this group of works embracing so many different types. In " King Estmere " the singers will be heard to distinct advantage. The request number at this concert will be Dr Thomas Wood's "This England," a tune for massed singing with descant —a dignified and noble setting of some dignified verses from Shakespeare's "Richard II." The popular contralto, Mrs C. M. Ba'rnett, has a song of unusual interest, written by Elgar for the opening by King Edward VII of that well-known London thoroughfare, the Kingsway. The audience will probably receive an enjoyable surprise from Mr Owen Barra-Gwanath, a brilliant young bass, who is to sing an aria from Mozart's opera " The Magic Flute." Mr Barra-Gwanath's voice is of exceptional depth and richness and he is sure of a hearty reception. When one calls to mind an added attraction in the shape of Mozart's D minor piano concerto, to be olayed by Mr Gil Dech with full orchestra, it will be recognised that this will be an exceptional concert. The box plans are now on view at Bego's and the D.I.C.
