The fifth attempt by a German expedition to climb NanKa Parbat, the 2(3.650ft peak in the western Himalayas, will be made this summer by a parly under the leadership of HenKarl Wien. professor of geography in Munich University. The other climbers are Herr Peter Muellritter, who will be responsible for films of the attempt: Herr Adolf Gocttner. of Munich; Dr Hans Hartmann. of Berlin: and Dr Guenther Hepp, of Munich, who will be the medical expert. All have taken part in previous expeditions to the Himalayas. Four others with mountaineering experience' in other parts of the world —Professor C. Troll, of Berlin University: Dr Ulrich Luft, Herr Martin Preffer. and HenBert Frankhaeuser—will complete the party. Two parties from the Ist Battalion the East Surrey Regiment are to make expeditions in the Himalayas this summer. The first, with Lieutenant E. G. A. Lett in charge, after leaving Ranikhet in the Kumaon district (United Provinces) is to spend two months exploring little-known valleys near the Nepalese border. The second, with Corporal R. Ridley in charge, is to explore in the neighbourhood of the great peaks of Nandn Devi and Kamct.
