An English carnation valued ax £IOOO caused great interest at a display in New York. The carnation if named the “ Marchioness of Headfort.' The high price is due to the fact thaonly the first plant of the new variety can be used, as the seeds seldom breed true. It was also pointed out that i’ takes about five years to develop. Advertising points out the merits o; a product and impresses the buye£ with its desirability.
