TAIERI RIVER TRUST

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Taieri River Trust was held at Mosgiel yesterday at the conclusion of the quarterly tour of inspection of the district. The chairman (Mr H. W. Wilson) presided, and there were also present—Messrs C. Findlay, J. Young, J. M. Smith, G. Lyall, J. Dow and A. Moore. FINANCE Accounts amounting to £270 3s lid were passed for payment. There was a credit balance at the bank of £226 11s sd. WORK REPORTS Mr J, Marshall reported that 90 chains of Loch Katrini drain and 123 chains of A, Bathgate’s drain had been cut and dragged. The drain through McDonald’s, M'NeiU’s and Dow’s was shovelled for 105 chains. Cutting and dragging had also been done on P. Bathgate’s drain, from J. M'NeilTs to Beehive road. (75 chains) and A. Reid’s drain (70 chains). Seventy chains of Wylie’s Creek diversion had been completed. The gang was working at A. Cameron’s drain. Attention was drawn to the blocked state of the drain leading to A. Young’s pump. The report was adopted, and the matter of the drain to Young’s was held over. Mr D. Parsons reported that one side of,the new cut from Green road to Otokia road was cleaned. Work had also been done to B drain from the new cut to the railway (125 chains), C drain from the new cut to Duck Creek (89 chains), Otokia drain (54 chains) and Centre road drain from B drain to M'Fadzien’s drain. Temporary relief was given to Loch Ascog drain. The riverbanks had been attended to, and the gang was at present engaged in Maungatua drain. The pumps were working night and day to cope with the large volume of water since the heavy rain. It was recommended that Scott’s drain, Robertson’s drain and Shaw’s and Timblick’s drains should be cleaned. The report was adopted, and the suggestions approved. CORRESPONDENCE Mr A. W. Amos, Momona, wrote asking the trust to clean out the scheduled drain on his property, as it had not been attended to fo_r a long time.—lt was decided to clean the drain when the men were working at Momona.
