WANAKA
Golf The Roxburgh ladies’ team played a club match against the Wanaka team on Saturday, and the games resulted in a win for Wanaka, the score being one up. The results were as follows (Wanaka names first): —Mrs Ewing beat Mrs Gilmore, 2 and 1; Mrs Mann lost to Mrs Laloli, 2 down; Mrs Collings and Mrs Tough were all square; Mrs M’Kegg defeated Mrs Elder, 1 up; Mrs Scaife beat Mrs George, 4 and 3; Miss Habner lost to Mrs Johnston, 4 down. The men of the club played the first round of Mr F. Collings’s trophy, and the best cards handed in were as follows:—C. Ceilings, 91—23—68; C. Wilson. 96—28—68; W. Ironside, 90—19—71; F. Jackson, 87—14—73; G. Morris, 97 23 —74; D. Galloway, 104—30—74; J. Perrow, 85—8—77; R. Waldron, 110 —27 —B3; T. Allison, 109—25—84; C. Ewing, 119—30—89. Rugby Football The Matakanui football team paid their annual visit to Wanaka last weekend, and in a match played on Saturday defeated the Wanaka side by 6 points to 3. In the Wanaka forward pack L. Ewing and A. Scaifc were outstanding, while J. M'Cormack and T. Blunt were conspicuous in the backs. D. Trevathan gave a good performance as full-back. The scorers for Matakanui were White and Alexander, while E. Anderson kicked a penalty for War aka. After the match the visitors were entertained at a smoke concert by the Wanaka team and supporters and later a dance was held in the hall. Quail Shooting Quail shooters to the district have been numerous during the past week, and good bags have been obtained. Mr H. B. S. Johnstone, of Otaio, and party obtained 90 birds in three days’ shooting, while Mr H. B. L. Johnstone, accompanied by Mr J. Sutherland, of Waimate, and Mr C. Douglas averaged 30 birds each day.
