ourer, aged 42, and Crocker as a butcher and labourer, aged 46, “All of these cases are of thefts from motor cars. A very large number of complaints has been received,” said Detective Sergeant j Holmes, referring to the eight charges against the accused. “ There seems to bo little reason why they should prey on people the way they have been doing. Both have bad records.” Detectives Watt and Trethewey had been to investigate the complaints. Sus- | picion had fallen on the accused, and the goods had been found in their house. “ These thefts were committed while under the influence of liquor.” Telfer claimed. “ Most of the stuff | has been recovered.” I Crocker had nothing to say. “ You are both aiming steadily at being habitual criminals.” said the magistrate. “It does not rest with me, but that is what will happen.”
