STATE FOURSOMES TITLE FERRIER AND THOMPSON WIN . SYDNEY, May 30. (Received May 30, at 5.5 p.m.) Jim Ferrier and George Thompson won the foursomes championship of New South Wales at the Royal Sydney links, with rounds of 71 and 72, which is one under par and a record for the event. The same pair won the event in 1933 and 1934. They did not compete the two following years. BRITISH AMATEUR TITLE SWEENY DEFEATS DUNN LONDON, May 29. (Received May 30, at 10 p.m.) In the final of the amateur golf Championship. Sweeny defeated Diinn 3—2. The finalists were a veteran and a youngster. Munn, who is 50 years of age, has won seven Irish championships. He has played first class golf for 30 years and has never been nearer winning the amateur championship. Sweeny was recently captain of Oxford University.
Sweeny took the lead at the first hole, only to lose it at the twentythird, after which he overcame his shakiness and won three holes in succession. Munn, despite his age, made a gallant effort but was beaten by sounder golf.
