SONG RECITAL

The impending departure from Dunedin of Mr and Mrs Ramsay Howie lends a special significance to next Saturday night's son? recital. These two singers, in collaboration with Miss Margaret Gawne. have prepared a programme drawn partly from the classics but even in greater part from the wonderful resources of modern song literature. Chronologically, the programme ranges from Bach to Bantock. as it were, and geographically from Russia to our own city. The local composition selected is Dr Harold Findlay's splendid setting of "Follow the Gleam." the words of which are taken from Tennyson's poem " Merlin and the Gleam." Miss Margaret Gawne who recently returned from musical appointments in Toronto, has not been heard recently in Dunedin Many music-lovers will r ill the special gifts she brings to the art of accompanying, which, supplemented by intensive study, have made her artistic co-operation an outstanding feature of the works to be presented.
