THE 8.8. C. APOLOGISES
. BROADCASTING INCIDENT ANNOUNCER TRANSFERRED LONDON, May 27. The Broadcasting Corporation has apologised for Commander Woodroofed broadcast. It says that after his return from a short period of sick leave he will be transferred to duties which for a time will not involve speaking into the microphone. The Daily Telegraph understands that Commander Woodroofe will devote himself to the organisation of outside broadcasts, and will ultimately give running commentaries. The Broadcasting Corporation's description of the fleet illuminations on May 21 sensationally faded out. after four minutes, although it was scheduled for 15. The commentator was Lieutenant-commander T. Woodroofe, a member of the corporation s outside broadcast staff. Commander Woodroofe, who had broadcast descriptions of the fleet review earlier in the day, issued a statement to the News Chronicle: I have been taking the strain of broadcasting from Spithead throughout the day. I have been broadcasting the whole show. To-night when I went to the Nelson's foretop to give descriptions of the illuminations I was so overcome by the occasion that I literally burst into tears and repeated myself many times until I found I could say no more."
