RAILWAY TIME TABLES ALTERED USE OF TAWA FLAT DEVIATION (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON. May 28. In a statement to the press, the Minister of Railways (Mr D. G. Sullivan) announced that important timetable alterations would come into opertion on and after June 20, following the opening of the new station at Wellington on Saturday, June 19, when all passenger trains will use the Tawa Flat Deviation. The change-over to the deviation, the Minister said, made it possible to reduce appreciably the running time of all trains using the Wellington—Palmerston North portion of the main trunk line. A saving of 42 minutes would be effected in the running of the 3 p.m. Auckland-Wellington express, and a saving of 26 minutes would be made in the running of the 7 p.m. Auckland-Wellington Limited. The arrival and departure times of the main trunk expresses had been arranged to coincide. In both directions the Limited would take 14J hours for the run between the Auckland and WeJlington terminals, and the ordinary expresses 16 hours. Time-saving alterations were also being made in the case of the New Plymouth and Napier expresses, the Minister said, as well as in Wellington and Palmerston local trains, and alterations to provide faster services had been arranged for the various Wellington suburban lines, and also on the Wairarapa route.
