WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

Reports of meetings of branches are requested but they should be furnished promptly, for the publication of reports that are not supplied within a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised.

Mra Morrison occupied the chair at the meeting of the Awamoko-George-town Women's Institute. The motto was "The only way to have a good friend is to be one." The roll call was "An item of interest in the Coronation." The results of the competitions are as follows:—Junior: .Plain, knitting—Miss Kennedy 1, Miss Ledingham 2; fancy—Miss Ledingham 1, Miss Kennedy 2. Senior: Plain, Mrs Aitcheson 1 and 2; fancy, Mrs Ayson 2. A demonstration on the making of lamp shades was given by Mrs Morton, of Papakaio. Mesdames Johnston and Smart were hostesses. The social half-hour was occupied in reading a short sketch.

The Romahapa Institute met in the Public Hall on May 26. The president (Mrs Chalmers) took the chair. The motto was "Coming together is a beginning,, keeping together is progress." The roll call was " What I like doing on a wet day." The competition, " Darning done at the meeting," was won by Mrs Searle and Miss M. Maslin (equal). The making of wool cushions was demonstrated by Mrs Searle, The hostess was Mrs Chalmers.

The Sawyers' Bay Institute met in the Public Hall on Thursday. The motto was " Few of us get dizzy from doing too many good turns." The roll call was "An outstanding event in one's life." The Rev. Allen Stevely gave an address on " The Coronation." Competition winners were. An eggless cake—Mrs Hewitson 1, Mrs Miller 2,' Mrs Latta 3; a soft toy—Mrs Hodge. 1, Mrs Pettigrew 2, Mrs Downss 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Latta, Jenkins, and Lewis.
