Mrs E. H. S. Miller, who has been visiting Invercargill and Dunedin, will return to-day to her home in Wellington. ' * # * Miss Kathleen Richmond recently gave a "pantry" evening at the home of her parents in honour of her sister, Imelda, who is to be married shortly. A pleasant time was spent in games and musical items. Those present included Mesdames Riddell, Barrell, and Campbell, and Misses Elsie Hawtin, Ann M'Alevey, Violet Mee, Connie Sullivan, Pat Mee, Elva Davis, Frances Gravison, and Iris Dear. * * /* The committee of the North-East Harbour Boating Club recently entertained the lady members at an enjoyable function which took the form of a mock banquet. About 54 were present. The evening commenced with the loyal toast, followed by the commodore's remarks and the welcome to the ladies and visitors from other clubs. The supper room was decorated in the form of a ship, with port and starboard lights, coloured lights and streamers. The tables were decorated with flowers, the decorations all being done by the men of the club. After an enjoyable programme, everybody adjourned to the main hall, where a dance was held. The night's entertainment was brought to a close by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." The Otago Home Economics Council held its second meeting for 1937 on Thursday, Mrs Riley presiding over a good attendance of branch presidents. The recently-formed St Clair group was formally enrolled and welcomed to. the association. Mesdames Leary and Riley were appointed as representatives to the National Council of Women, and -it was decided to forward a letter expressing appreciation of her services to Mrs Evans, the retiring representative. Sympathetic reference was made to the recent bereavement sustained by Mrs Orr Campbell. A proposal to form a cutting-out and dressmaking class was discussed. Considerable interest, was displayed by members in a discussion regarding the ideal house from a housewife's point of view, and members were requested to bring the matter before their various branches with a view to preparing plans of homes designed on efficient, labour-saving and economical lines.
