THE FASCIST MENACE?

TO THE EDITOR Sir,—lncessant change is a law of society, says Miss Gow in a letter on the above subject. She also says that the sole aim of capitalism is production for profit That is quite legitimate, and in accord with national law, and the proof is seen in the existence of surplus stocks of many kinds. Nor would there be any restriction or destruction of goods under our so-called capitalist system if society would only realise that it should obey the law of incessant change and its clamant urge and allow of the financing of consumption as well as the financing of production. This would give the producer a better market and a little more profit, and it would not do him any harm. __ , ,■ I always read Miss Gow's letters as she seems to have a clearer conception of Karl Marx's doctrines than any others, and in her letter she states that he foresaw a time in the evolution of banking and credit systems when all exchange might be carried on by a system of accountancy. Why, not 7 That is what many are demanding to know over the world. That our system is called capitalistic does not count. Further, would the writer say whether this is done in Russia to-day, and if not, what sort of financial system does operate? Why, I ask, is it the fact that neither men who have come back from the U.S.S/.R. nor any of our self-styled Communists here can exDlain it?—l am, etc., , • Dunedin. John Stephens.
