OTAGO HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Hospital Board was held last night, Mr J. W. Dove presiding. The following were also present:—Dr Newlands, Messrs F. W. Venn, A. F. Quelch, A. Steel, D. M'Lennan, H. S. Sheat, Mrs Ross, and Miss Farquhar. COMMITTEE REPORTS Moving the adoption of the Hospital Committee's report, the chairman referred to the gifts made to the hospital every month, and stated that the board was greatlv indebted to those persons • who worked in this manner in the interests of the hospital. The report was adoDted, the reports of the Benevolent, Sanatorium, and Finance Committees also being received without discussion. REMISSION OF ACCOUNTS The secretary recommended the remission of accounts for maintenance amounting to £3,290 9s 4d.—Approved. MONTHLY STATISTICS The medical superintendent (Dr James Thomson) submitted the following statistics for the month of April:—Patients admitted, 448; total discharged or died, 413; number remaining on April 30, 318; number of operations performed, 211; out-patients treated, 2117; Tuberculosis Department, 133; Radiology Department, 350; Massage Department, 2442. The report was approved. LETTERS OF APPRECIATION The secretary of the Otago Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association (Mr E. C. Isaacs) wrote expressing, the appreciation, of the centre of the excellent work being done by, Mr W. F. Ashman in the instruction of crippled children in swimming.—The medical superintendent (Dr James Thomson) reported that he had also been advised of the good work being done by Mr Ashman. The letters were received, the chair-, man expressing the board's gratitude for Mr Ashman's services. Letters were also received from three patients, expressing appreciation of the care and attention given them during the time they were in the Dunedin Hospital.—Received. MAINTENANCE CHARGES The Vincent Hospital Board advised that its charges for maintenance had been raised to 15s per day under the reciprocal agreement with the Otago Board. —Received. TENDER The tender of Messrs Lawrence Bros, was accepted for extensions to the nurses' home at the Wakari Hospital. '_ '...-.
