FILM OF CORONATION ARRIVAL BY PLANE TO-DAY Sixteen days after the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, a newsreel film showing scenes from the historic event will, be screened in Dunedin, fast transport by special plane having made it possible tor Amalgamated Theatres, Ltd., to show the newsreel this afternoon at the State and Grand Theatres. The film, which is 1500 feet in length, was despatched by a specially-chartered plane, piloted by Captain P. F. Taylor, which flew from England across Europe to overhaul and connect with the regular England-Australia mail plane, and its arrival this morning at Wellington by the Maunganui creates a new record for air transport of a newsreel film. Actually the film reached Sydney only 10 days after the Coronation, and the fact that New Zealand time is 11 hours ahead of English time means actually that Dunedin audiences will be enabled to view the film only 15 days after the Coronation.
The filming of the Coronation ceremony was preceded by several weeks of careful preparation by the British Gaumont Company, which had received the rights, and special film and lenses had to be used to enable the interior scenes in Westminster Abbey to be photographed adequately. Reports received from Australia indicate that the grandeur of this outstanding spectacle has been faithfully recorded, and that screen audiences will see the ceremony better and more fully than many of those present in the crowded abbey. The clarity of the voices is remarkable and the King can be heard quite plainly as he utters the responses. The incident of the crowning of his Majesty forms a fitting climax to a notable achievement by a British company.
