MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otago Education Board was held yesterday, and was attended by Messrs James Wallace (chairman), D, T. Fleming, C. E. Richards, E. Morgan, i D. C. Cameron, W. D. Sutherland, D. Marshall, N. H. Colquhoun, W. | M. Cooper, and W. R. Brugh. | GRANTS AND SUBSIDIES I The Education Department wrote! advising that an additional grant had been made for a nev drainage system and rearrangement of the out- j offices of the Oamaru Manual Training Centre.—The secretary reported that the work had been completed, and the department’s intimation was noted with thanks. j The committee of Benhar School wrote applying for a subsidy on the cost (£32) of top-dressing and 2pairing the asphalt in the school \ playground.—lt was decided to grant i half the cost. CONVEYANCE OF CHILDREN i A petition was received from par- : ents and residents of the district asking the board to have the children i of the Popotunoa School conveyed either to Waipahi or Greenfield. —It, ! was decided tc hold the matter over j < pending further information from the School Committee. 1 A sub-committee set up by the < board reported having visited the ] district, and authorised the calling of tenders for the conveyance of j the children of the Glenledi and . First-year Training College students admitted as from February 1 this year would be paid Training College allowance from that date, and lodging allowance from the date on which the college actually reopened. In the case of all permanent appointments, which would, under normal circumstances, take effect from February 1. the teacher would receive from February 1 the salary j attaching to the new All j vacancies for additional assistantships were to be advertised in the Education Gazette. SCHOOL COMMITTEE ACCOUNTS Mr R. F. Phillips was appointed auditor of school committee accounts, at the usual fee. FINANCE Accounts amounting to £16,705 10s 6d were passed for payment.
