•j i EXPENDITURE ON AIRCRAFT I i , t ESTIMATE FOR THE YEAR ; 1 : CHICAGO, Feb. 17. • (Received Feb. 17, at 9 p.m.) ’Mr Howard Welch, manager of the Bendix Aviation Export Corporation, estimated that nearly 1,000,000 dbllars will be spent in 1937 throughout the world on new airdraft. Eighty per cent, of "8,500 units will be fighting planes. The United States will produce less than one third of the output for war purposes, but military aircraft will predominate in the rest of the woild. The total of 28,500 units represents nearly half the world’s existing supply of aircraft, and the estimate is; based on a study of 56 nations.
TRANSATLANTIC SERVICE
LONDON, Feb. 16. Imperial Airways, commenting on the United States decision to provide finance for the transatlantic air service, has issued a statement that it. exnects a British company to operate experimental mail services by the time America is ready to begin. The establishment of a passenger service will follow as soon as possible.
