Reports ol meetings ol branches are requested, but they should be furnished promptly for the publication ot reports that are not supplied witnin a week from the date of the meeting cannot be promised. Mrs Hamilton occupied the chair at the first meeting for the year of the Glenavy Women’s Institute. Mrs Cuthbertson read the creed. The president expressed regret at the impending departure of Mrs, and Miss Berry for Christchurch, and on behalf of the branch thanked them for their assistance in the past. The matron of the Timaru Orphanage wrote thanking members for their Christmas gifts of hats and scarves. The roll call was, “How I Spent Christmas Day.” Several competitions were arranged by Mesdames Trezise and Williams. The hostesses were Mesdames Marshall, Swan, and Elliott. The results of the month’s competitions are as follows: — Facecloth—Miss I. Cuthbertson 1, Miss C. M'Lean 2. Junior section: Miss J. M'Lean 1. Miss M. Carroll 2. Blooms— Mrs Hamilton 1. Mrs Cuthbertson and Mrs N. Gibson (equal) 2. Carnation— Mrs Cuthbertson 1, Mrs N. Gibson 2.
