BURNSIDE STOCK MARKET

BETTER PRICES RULING FAT CATTLE An entry of 264 fat cattle came forward at the Burnside sale yesterday, bullocks being in the minority, and the offering comprised principally cows and heifers. The bullocks forward were mostly good quality descriptions, but several pens of cows and heifers, particularly the former, lacked finish. The sale opened with values showing an appreciation on last week’s sale, and generally, prime ox beef sold at £1 per head dearer rates, while good quality cows and heifers were realising prices fully 10s in excess of the previous market. Old cows, which were in over-supply, did not attract the same competition, and there was no improvement for this class. Values were:—Extra prime heavy bullocks, to £ls 12s 6d; prime heavy, from £l2 2s 6d to £l3 2s 6d; medium quality, from £9 17s 6d to £lO 17s 6d; light, down to £7 7s 6d.
