NEW BRIGHTON TRACK WORK

(Peh United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 17. The grass course at New Brighton this morning was in excellent order; in fact; it has' never been in a better condition, and provided the weather is favourable during the week it will provide fast footing for Saturday’s racing. The trestles were placed more than halfway across the course, only the extreme outside being available. The extra distance the horses had to travel was equivalent to ssec to the mile. Olive King and Red Ranger were not required to do their best while pacing a mile and aquarter in 3min. Red Ranger had a hind foot severely cut about three months ago. but it has healed in a satisfactory manner, and he is fit to receive a thorough preparation. Billy Sundy has furnished a good deal since he last raced, and acted more sensibly than on previous occasions. He was restricted to half-pace work, being accompanied by Sky Wink, which went in saddle. Our Fay began quickly from the mile and a-half post, and was followed at various intervals by Black Marble, Elite Rey, Red Flyer. Aristotle, and Aircraft. Our Fay led her companions to the half-mile post in Imin 11 3-5 sec. and was at the mile in 2mm 26 sec. She was still two lengths clear of Elite Rey. Black Marble, and Red Flyer at the mile apd a-quarter post in 3min Isec. but in the race down the straight Red Flyer finished strongly, and beat Our Fay by a neck, with Elite Rey, Black Marble. Aristotle, and Aircraft finishing in that order. Red Flyer registered 3mm 32sec, Our Fay 3min 34sec, Black Marble and Elite Rey 3min 35sec, and Aristotle 3min 31sec. Red Flyer. Elite Rey, and Our Fay impressed most.
