MR ELIHU ROOT (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, Feb. 6. (Received Feb. 8, at 0.30 a.m.) The death has occurred of Mr Elihu Root from 'pneumonia. v

Mr Elihu Root, who was born in 1845, was Secretary of War in the Cabinet of President M'Kinley from

1899 to 1904, Secretary of State in the Cabinet of President Theodore Roosevelt from 1905 to 1909, and a Senator from 1909 to 1915. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 1912.

DR R. TRACY-INGLIS

(Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, Feb. 7. The death has occurred of Dr Russell Tracy-Inglis, C.8.E., one of the Dominion’s leading surgeons and a former medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital. He had a distinguished war record. Dr Tracy-Inglis was born in Glasgow in 1875, and as a young man went to Melbourne, where he graduated M. 8., Ch.B., in 1899. He was appointed medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital in 1901 and, when he resigned to take up private practice, was appointed to the honorary staff. He was medical superintendent of the St. Helen’s Hospital, Auckland, from its inception in 1900 until last vear. He was also prominent in the Masonic Order. He is survived by his wife, one son and two daughters.
