Cansbrook B made 153 against University, which has four down for 99. CARISBROOK A v. GRANGE By scoring 414 runs in its first innings on Saturday afternoon, Carisbrook A placed itself in .a very strong position against Grange. Carisbrook s runs were made in just under three hours and three-quarters, and Grange, which took the field at 5.4 a p.m., had 33 on for three wickets when stumps were drawn. The most noteworthy feature of Carisbrook’s innings was the excellent knock of F. Kerr, who in making 164 scored his second successive century in club cricket. He gave two chances, but, on the whole, his was a very bright display. With Cavanagh, who made 75 in delightfully free style. Kerr put on 120 runs for the second wicket in 61 minutes. His score was made in 190 minutes and included 24 fours. Nimmo, who went in se«ond last, went _ for the bowling in determined fashion, and made 27 runs off the nine balls he received, placing one on top of the grand stand and another right oyer it. The Grange bowlers had a bad day. the most successful being Chettleburgh, with four for 115, and Elmes, who took two for 74. Grange’s innings started badly, and when play finished for the day three wickets were down for 33. Nimmo bowled with good pace and length to take three wickets for 12 runs. OLD BOYS y. DUNEDIN Old Boys and Dunedin commenced their match at Tonga Park on the No. 2 wicket. Dunedin batted first, but 'after five overs had been bowled it was decided, on account of the uncertain and dangerous state of the wicket, to recommence the game on the No. ,1 wicket, Badcock received two nasty knocks from balls from Dickinson which rose sharply, and the coach was compelled to retire with an injured hand. . i ■ Robertson and Holley were the new openers, and Holley gave a sound d’splay for 40, while Taylor played an attractive innings for 50. Eckhold was undefeated with a carefully-compiled 26, and the innings closed for 149 None of the batsmen could handle Graham with any confidence, and he took five wickets for 16 runs. Groves and Mills took first strike for Old Boys, and set about the howling in aggressive fashion. This pair were not separated until they had put on 117 runs, which were scored in the remarkably fast time of 59 minutes Mills was the first to go when he attempted to drive a good length ball from Douglas and was clean bowled. His 46 included some nice shots. Groves was nicely taken in the slips by Douglas off the next ball from Macassey, and retired after giving a bright and aggressive display. His 70 was scored in under the hour, and included eight 4’s and one 6. He was particularly severe on Taylor, scoring 19 from : one of his overs. After the dismissal of these two batsmen, the scor- ’ ing rate slackened considerably, and . accurate bowling by Douglas and Macassey resulted in Old Boys losing " three more wickets. At the drawing of stumps the side had lost five : wickets for 151 runs.
