OPERA HOUSE ‘‘FATAL LADY” The glamour of the career of a famous concert singer, the colour offered by a background of the gay capitals of three continents, an outstanding musical score, including two original operas, a dramatic story depicting the life of a woman hounded by fate, and the glorious voice of a great star of the Metropolitan Opera, Mary Ellis, are the- qualities of “ Fatal Lady,” which will be shown to-night and on Tuesday at the Opera House. “ Fatal Lady ” is essentially drama, tinged with intriguing mystery, but, beyond that, it has the famous voice of Mary Ellis, who has been. provided with three outstanding musical opportunities —the song, “Je Vous Adore,” and two original operas, “ Isabelle ” and “ Bal Masque.” Beautifully staged, they represent an added measure of entertainment that serves as a perfect obbligato to the story’s dramatic theme. Walter Pidgeon, John Halliday, Ruth Donnelly, and Alan Mowbray are also in the cast. GENERAL NEWS The entries for to-morrow’s Waiareka sale comprise several good lines of ewes, wethers, and lambs, and also fat and store cattle. Miss K. Cartwright and Miss H. Cartwright will resume teaching in pianoforte and theory on Wednesday at their studios. Messrs L. Rutherford, J. P. M’Leod, and C. Jones, of Oamaru, have returned from a motor camping tour of the North and South Islands, extending over a fortnight, during which they covered a distance of about 2000 miles. The trip took them to Christchurch, Goose Bay, Blenheim, Nelson, Wellington, Napier, Taupo, Rotorua, through the King Country, and back to Wellington via Taihape and Foxton. The weekly dance at the Scottish Hall attracted the usual large crowd, which spent a very pleasant time in dancing old and modern dances to music supplied by Rae’s Orchestra. Mr G. C. Craig was M.C.
