HIBERNIAN DEBATING CLUB

HALF-YEARLY MEETING The half-yearly general meeting of the Hibernian Social and Debating Club was held recently. A large attendance of members and supporters I of the club was welcomed by the president (Mr M'Alevey). Apologies for unavoidable absence were received from his Lordship the Bishop, the Rev. Father Hanrahan. and Mr R King. The auditor (Mr J. H. Thompson) congratulated the club on the excellent financial position at the end of the year, and remarked that the steady

improvement was in no small measure due to the work and energy of the secretary (Mr H. Cullen). After discussing matters of general business, the president presented the Essay Cup to Mr F. Brown, who won this trophy in competition during the half-year. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—President, Mr W. M'Alevey; vice-president, Mr I. Davis; auditor, Mr J. H. Thompson; secretary, Mr H. Cullen; assistant secretary, Mr S. E. Mee; treasurer, Mr P. M'Alevey; committee —Messrs J. J. Quinn, J. Cullen, J. B. Cull, V. Aitchison, R. Carroll, L. Hanlon, F. Dawson, and R. King. Prior to the conclusion of the meeting, members discussed the forthcoming Easter tournament at Timarii, and it was resolved that the club be fully

represented and debates be commenced immediately for the purpose of selecting speakers.
