DUNEDIN FREE KINDERGARTEN

MEETING OF COUNCIL The first meeting of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Council for 1937 was held on Thursday afternoon. Mrs Taverner, senior vice-president, was in the chair, and the following members were present:—Lady Sidey, Lady Hutchison, Mesdames Glendining. Halsted, Hudson, Phillips. Smith, and Wilson. A motion of sympathy with the president (Mrs R. A. Ewing) in her serious illness was carried. The resignation of Miss Rene Wilkie from the position of director of the Kelsey-Yaralla Kindergarten was accepted with regret, and a message of congratulation was sent to her on her appointment as principal of the Christchurch Free Kindergartens. It was reported that the kindergartens would reopen on the same date as the primary schools, and that the North-East valley Kindergarten would begin probably a week later. Arrangements were well in hand for the reopening of this kindergarten, and a local committee would be formed shortly. The annual balance sheet, which had been duly audited, was accepted fori presentation at the annual meeting.
