A cockatoo which had escaped from its owner's home was the cause of a delay" of about eight minutes to the train service on the Mordialloc and Dandenong lines the other night (states the Melbourne Age). Trailing a chain, which was attached to one of its legs, the bird alighted on the overhead gear in the Carnegie railway station. When the chain came in contact with the wires there was a severe electrical explosion, and a power failure occurred. The deafening report caused a great deal of alarm among passengers in trains which were alongside the platform at the time. Thinking that a serious explosion had occurred at the station, residents of houses in the vicinity rushed on to the roadway. A breakdown gang was quickly on the scene, and the overhead gear was repaired in a few minutes. After the echo of the explosion died away a search was made for the cockatoo, but the only signs of a bird that could be found were a few burnt feathers which fluttered to the ground from the overhead wires.
