BULLS ON A GOLF COURSE

A creditable imitation of a Wild West rodeo was given on a Taranaki golf links one afternoon last week, when two bulls, an Ayrshire and a Jersey, tried conclusions at the ninth hole, much to the consternation of the golfers, including some women players, who did not appreciate the spoiling of the peaceful serenity of their game by such unusual visitors. The Ayrshire, having disposed of his opponent, then prepared to show battle to all and sundry, and he held command for two hours, while two expert drovers used all their best rodeo skill to remove him, assisted by a daring golfer armed with a club in the role of picador. It was not until a mob of other cattle was brought on the scene that the allconquering bull was inveigled into leaving the battleground. Had he realised his fate he might have made even a greater struggle, for he was doomed to be railed to a freezing works for slaughter and export.
