CORONATION PROGRAMME

ADVANCE ORDERS EMPIRE DEMAND (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, Jan. 16. Advance orders for the official programme of the Coronation have been received from all parts of the Empire. When the event takes place there will be few communities even in the remoter parts of the dominions and colonies who will be unable to follow, through the printed word, the ceremonies in London. If a wireless set is available the reader wiil actually be able' to follow the procession with his finger tips, for there will be in the programme a chart of the route, with notable buildings marked upon it. The programme will consist of 32 pages of text and illustration, the cover bearing the Royal Coat of Arms in full colours. It will be beautifully produced and will not only be a guide to an historic occasion: it will be treasured as a permanent souvenir of the Coronation. The contents will include special portraits of their Majesties King George VI and Queen Elizabeth/ her Majesty Queen Mary, their Royal Highnesses the Princess Elizabeth and the Princess Margaret, and other members of the Royal Family. The Poet Laureate, Mr John Masefield, has written a special Coronation ode OFFICIAL POTTERY A sample of the Coronation Mug has been submitted to their Majesties, who have approved the design and scheme of decoration. The official mugs and beakers are to_ be manufactured by members of the British Pottery Manufacturers' Federation.

It is expected that between four and five million will be required, and within the next few days thousands of men and women employed by between 60 and 70 firms will be at work on their manufacture. The design is based upon _ a selection from one hundred entries received as a result of a competition organised by the federation. Twelve separate colours are incorporated on the mugs and beakers, which bear the portraits'of the King and Queen on one side and a royal monogram on the other. They will be available in earthenware and in china, while the beakers will be obtainable with and without handles.
